Ecological Design & Self-build

Rural Youth Hub - Self Design and Build

Client: The Callander Youth Project and Stirling Council

The project was initiated by the Callander Youth Forum, which is supported by the Callander Youth Project and was funded by the Big Lottery Fund. Throughout the development of the project there was a strong focus on the involvement of the local young people of Callander and the surrounding area. Workshops based around ecological design were fundamental in stimulating ideas and canvassing the local youth for their views.

The Callander Youth Project (CYP) was established in 1997 in response to a number of young male suicides in the town. The aim was to improve the quality of life for young people aged between 11 and 25, by providing access to improved recreational and educational facilities, support and resources. CYP is a limited guarantee company and is a registered Scottish Charity governed by a board of 6 trustees.

Through engaging with the local youths at the workshops, Gaia were able to identify the essential facilities required by the CYP as well as the level of demand for other 'additional' facilities. This is now complete and fund-raising is ongoing.
