John Anderson Campus

Client: University of Strathclyde

Gaia Research has been developing and overseeing the sustainability strategy for the £350M development of the city centre John Anderson campus. This has involved providing sustainability guidance to the client and working alongside project teams on the design development, tendering and construction of new build and refurbishment, as well as minor works. Projects include new sports & health, research and teaching facilities and major refurbishments. Gaia is providing support in brief setting, project reviews, benchmarking, detailing, and tender and procurement strategies to assist in the development of the designs and the subsequent construction and handover. Policy, design standards and management guidance has been developed which will guide future development. Gaia also provide training on sustainability issues & best practice to the client and design teams as required.

The work involves providing real time guidance - throughout the Fee Stages from inception and briefing through to design appraisal, construction and ultimate handover and covers resource conservation, waste reduction, water management, landscape, cost, preparation of tenders, site issues, biodiversity, contractor training, handover and post occupancy. The work covers best practice in relation to technical issues, benchmarking options, landscape, cost and performance at a scale of individual buildings and the overall Campus.
