Craighalbert Centre Hydrotherapy Pool
Client: The Craighalbert Centre Trust
The Craighalbert school was already completed at the time of the appointment. The hydrotherapy facilities were conceived as an extension. The research for the project involved learning about the specific nature of making provision for the children and their carers and making allowance for a higher temperature regime than for a conventional pool – due to the lower mobility of the children.
The Hydrotherapy Pool was considered for a development of the work on Dynamic insulation and the potential for a dynamic roof was looked into. It was eventually rejected due to the high surface area needs to make adequate supply of fresh air. The project has been in use successfully for over ten years, and Gaia were involved in further work at the school subsequent to the pool being completed.
